The Saga of Head Priest

Adi Shankaracharya, in the 9th century, abased the sectarian conflicts amongst different schools of thought of Hindu Nature and unified them under one roof of Hindutva.

Later on, the Adi Shankaracharya or the first Shankaracharya ordered his disciples to establish 4 centres of Dharmic Scholarship at the 4 corners of the Indian Subcontinent. These centres have the responsibility to preserve and preach the Vedic wisdom continued through the legacy of the first Shankaracharya. This legacy is continued till today.

India, for the past thousand years, has been consistently plundered territorially and ideologically by the invaders. Remarkably, this tradition of knowledge thrived despite the political dire of the past. However, Hindu society kept getting bemused by caste, The Varna System and other theological factors promoted by colonizers. This Shankaracharya tradition, which was supposed to preserve and "preach", has miserably failed on the latter front. Evidentially, Vedic Scholars constitute less than 1% of the Hindu Society.

Now let's keep this tradition aside for a moment. What happened during the last millennia? Multiple warriors emerged from the Hindu masses and tried to safeguard the political and ideological freedom of Hindus. This chain of warriors happened during the era of political slavery, and the majority of them were not Vedic Scholars. The last one in this chain was Vinayak Savarkar aka Veer Savarkar. He proposed a new theory of Hindutva based on Scientific and geographical identity. Savarkar was an atheist and did not have any formal Vedic education. His pride for Dharma was territorial and hence he never bothered to harshly criticize the traditional Hindus. This led to alleged skirmishes between him and the contemporary Shankaracharya.

Savarkar's narrative has gained popularity gradually. But at the same time, Hindu society never bothered to understand the actual atheist nature of his Hindutva. While the political thoughts of Savarkar have proved helpful for the Hindus, there still exists a large set of Hindus who are believers and are influenced by Sannyasins. Here is the problem.

When Savarkarites and pro-Savarkar organizations were busy gathering political support from the Hindus; seculars and socialists created a bond with the Shankaracharya tradition. There are many Dharmic leaders in today's India who are aligned with Savarkar politically and differ with him religiously. But none of them is in a position to replace the Shankaracharya tradition and people still have a sacred place for this tradition in their hearts.

Today this hidden conflict has started gaining visibility. While many Savarkarites are bullying this tradition, the Shankaracharya position is also politicized. Direct political influence was seen especially for some appointments of Shankaracharya. This poses the biggest threat to Savarkar's Hindutva, that is: Hindus against Hindutva. Furthermore, the socialists who had established minor ties with the Shankaracharya tradition are now trying to interfere with the core Vedic thought and are trying to embody Marxism in it. One such recent attempt failed due to the thankful intervention of Infinity Foundation. A Sanskrit-learned Marxist professor from Harvard tried to persuade Shankaracharya to have a contract with him which could have made the professor, an attorney of Vedic wisdom in the West.

Can Savarkar's Hindutva face a Harvard-learned Sanskrit expert who's ideologically Marxist and preaches Vedas to the masses? Disastrously not! The Chinese left played the same gimmicks and distorted Quran taught in Madrasas to brainwash Muslim youth. While the majority of Muslim parents thought that their children were learning the Quran, what they learnt was actually communism packaged in the Quran.

Now the real question comes into the picture. If socialists and seculars belie their ideology and influence Shankaracharyas, why can't Savarkarites do so? If a pro-Savarkar dharmic leadership is achieved, the amalgamation of atheist Hindutva and theist Hindutva can ripe golden fruits for Hindu society. But for that, patience is the key.
